Dr Carmine Gentile, PharmD/PhD, FAHA, leads the Cardiovascular Regeneration Group working on 3D bioprinting and stem cell technologies at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and at the Heart Research Institute. He is also a Senior Lecturer (Faculty) within the School of Biomedical Engineering (Faculty of Engineering and IT) at the UTS. He received his BSc/MSc (Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technologies) and PharmD at the University of Pisa, Italy and his PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Cardiovascular) at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC, USA, funded by a prestigious American Heart Association Fellowship. Since 2013 Dr Gentile has worked in Australia at the Heart Research Institute, the University of Sydney and now at UTS, supported by several awards and grants, working within a multidisciplinary team with scientists, industry partners and clinicians to quickly translate his findings from bench to bedside. Dr Gentile is internationally recognized for his studies in 3D bioprinting and stem cell technologies and his more recent studies focus on novel molecular and cellular approaches to treat cardiovascular disease, including myocardial infarction and heart failure. These studies are based on the use of “mini-hearts” he developed as “bioinks” for human heart tissues. In 2016, he was invited as Visiting Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, where he worked towards novel in vitro models using mini-hearts to study human heart physiology.

Claus currently serves as the Chief Medical Offiver at Swissmedic, previously as their head of “Marketing Authorisation” and deputy Chief Executive. Claus joined Swissmedic 2012 to initially lead their Clinical Assessment division. 
Prior to that Claus had roles of increasing responsibilities with research-based international pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device organisations (UK, USA, CH). Claus trained as a General Surgeon and had clinical and academic appointments in Trauma, Transplant and Oncologic Surgery. 
The Swiss federal agency is responsible for the authorisation and supervision of therapeutic products across all therapeutic areas in a buzzing life-sciences research and manufacturing hub. Swissmedic is a member of the Access consortium – together with Australia’s TGA, Health Canada (HC), Singapore’s HSA, and the UK’s MHRA . As a Project Orbis partner Swissmedic also participates in the concurrent review of oncology products coordinated by the US FDA.

I graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 2007, at the University of Udine, Italy, with a thesis on the production of titanium biomedical scaffolds using electron beam melting. This sparked a deeper interest in the materials themselves, leading me to a postgraduate course in Metallurgical Engineering in 2008. In 2012, I was awarded a PhD in Industrial Engineering at the University of Padova. In 2014, I won the prestigious “Long-term fellowship” of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science, and I moved to the Kyoto Institute of Technology, in Japan. In 2017 I was appointed a guest professorship at the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, followed by an assistant professor position at the Kyoto Institute of Technology, in 2018. In 2022, I was promoted to associate professor and in 2024 I opened the new laboratory of biomaterials engineering. My research interests are focused on 3D printing of biomaterials, in particular metals and polymers or polymer matrix composites. My expertise in the field of biomaterials engineering has also been recognized by my appointment to the editorial boards of prestigious journals like “Materials & Design” and “Materials Today Bio

Florian M. Thieringer is an Oral- and Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgeon and a Medical 3D Expert, with focus on Tumor-, Trauma-, Reconstructive- and Orthognathic Surgery, located at the University Hospital Basel and University of Basel, Switzerland. 
FMT is currently Chair and Full Professor of Oral and Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery at the University Hospital Basel. He is the Head of the Medical Additive Manufacturing Research Group (Swiss MAM) at the University of Basel’s Department of Biomedical Engineering (UNIBAS DBE). 
He is an internationally recognized expert for computer assisted surgery (CAS) and medical additive manufacturing, extensively exploring and promoting the integration of virtual surgical planning, 3D printing and other innovative technologies at the point-of-care (POC) – like additive manufacturing of patient specific implants (PSI) in various (bio-) materials, including bioprinting & regenerative surgery. 
Since 2016 Florian Thieringer is Co-Director of the multidisciplinary 3D Print Lab at the University Hospital of Basel. Since 2020 he is Co-Principal Investigator of the innovative MIRACLE 2 project (Minimally Invasive Robot-Assisted Computer-guided LaserosteotomE). This 12 Mio Swiss Francs research project, funded by the Werner Siemens Foundation, aims to develop a robotic endoscope to perform contact-free bone surgery with laser light. Perfectly fitting patient-specific implants will be designed in AR/VR and will be produced by intra- and extracorporal 3D printing. 
He is co-applicant and since 2021 in the steering committee of the University Hospital Basel flagship project “Innovation Focus Regenerative Surgery”.

Javier Ramon is Group Leader at the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) in Barcelona, Spain, where he leads the “Biosensors for Bioengineering” group. His research integrates sensor technology and nanotechnology with tissue engineering to develop organs-on-a-chip (OOC). Notable projects under his leadership include the ERC starting grant project “DAMOC”, several pathfinder EU projects and the Fundación Bancaria “La Caixa” funded “TATAMI” project, which focuses on multi-organ-on-a-chip platforms and biomedical models for muscular dystrophies.  
Javier has established significant national and international collaborations, securing funding from prestigious institutions like the Medical Research Council (UK). His entrepreneurial ventures include a valorisation project to market plasmonic biosensors for point-of-care diagnosis and co-founding the spin-off company Vitala. He collaborates with industry partners such as Grifols, Multiwave, Oxford Instrument, and NovoNordisk.

Max JH Witjes is appointed full professor in Head & Neck oncology at the department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery of the University Medical Center of Groningen the Netherlands. He obtained his medical and dental degree at the University Medical Center of Groningen. During his studies he worked as a research assistant at the department of Biomaterials in Groningen as well as the department of Biomaterials, University of Alabama at Birmingham (USA). In 1997 he obtained his PhD (cum laude) on the subject of “Photodynamic therapy and fluorescence localisation of experimental oral dysplasia and squamous cell carcinoma” which was completed partially at the Erasmus Medical Centre of Rotterdam. 
Next to his daily practice in H&N oncology he has a specific interest in developing optimal functional reconstruction of craniofacial defects using 3D virtual planning techniques. He has pioneered and published on the advanced 3D planning of the reconstruction of craniofacial defects. He is PI on multiple clinical studies and supervises a group of PhD students, He has integrated 3D virtual planning in the daily clinical work and initiated the start of the UMCG wide <a href=”http://www.3Dlabgroningen.nl” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>3D lab</a> which he now manages. 
He is councilor of the International Association of Oral Oncology, member of the committee for revision of the Dutch guidelines for head and neck tumors, member of the Research steering committee of the Dutch Head and Neck Society (NWHHT) and member of the grant review committee Research & Implementation of the Dutch Cancer Society
