Javier Ramon is Group Leader at the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) in Barcelona, Spain, where he leads the “Biosensors for Bioengineering” group. His research integrates sensor technology and nanotechnology with tissue engineering to develop organs-on-a-chip (OOC). Notable projects under his leadership include the ERC starting grant project “DAMOC”, several pathfinder EU projects and the Fundación Bancaria “La Caixa” funded “TATAMI” project, which focuses on multi-organ-on-a-chip platforms and biomedical models for muscular dystrophies. 

Javier has established significant national and international collaborations, securing funding from prestigious institutions like the Medical Research Council (UK). His entrepreneurial ventures include a valorisation project to market plasmonic biosensors for point-of-care diagnosis and co-founding the spin-off company Vitala. He collaborates with industry partners such as Grifols, Multiwave, Oxford Instrument, and NovoNordisk.
